The process of being pregnant and giving birth is often medicalised and objectifies women. The female body becomes a receptacle for life and women’s agency over their bodies are being taken away from them.
I took this series of self-portraits in France int he summer of 2018 during my second pregnancy whilst my child was asleep, and during a period where I felt my perceived identity had been taken over by my pregnant body. During this time I was mainly met by questions relating to the size of my bump, whilst my own concerns were xconsumed by the limited childbirth options I was given at the time in London.
