La mer est la mère

Visual artwork

Jersey Art Trust- September 2017

Participant at GPS Embroidery by Lizzie Philps, LADA DIY 2017

‘Global Positioning Systems were invented in the service of imperialism. So was the confinement of the mother to the home. Mirroring the to and fro of the embroidery needle but scrawled large on the land, this works extends the possibilities of who-writes-what-where in and about the British Landscape.’ Lizzie Philps

In this residency weekend, I created two visual art works from the GPS recording of my walking/writing within the landscapes of Jersey. I then made three additional works in London based on the same methodology.

Works created:

La mer est la mère - exhibited at: Inside-Out: The Spaces of Motherhood in Hamilton House Gallery, Bristol (26th Oct-1st Nov 2017)
